Computational UltrasonicsNumerical techniques useful for simulating ultrasound propagation in tissue are currently being investigated. Such computations can be used to complement both experimental and theoretical work. The current goal of this project is to compare 3 different numerical schemes for linear acoustics in 2-D heterogeneous media. In addition to getting the algorithms operational, they are being explored for their strengths and weaknesses. A rigorous understanding of the errors and instabilities of the algorithms is necessary to assure correct computational results.
